Abstract
My reasons for choosing the short story form as a medium for expressing my thoughts are that people will be motivated to read thoroughly through it due to its temporary nature. Compared to long stories, short stories are easier to read since their ephemeral nature requires fewer words. Short stories allow one to cut through the ideas they want to share and limit them to only those they feel are important. Additionally, writing short stories among students aims to improve one’s writing skills. Short stories also stimulate reading for students because of their short word nature, thus consuming less reading time. Thus, through this essay, my main aim is to present my understanding of Feminism learned in the Gender and feminist course. This essay will highlight the theory on Feminism that stood out for me and my takeaway on the course throughout the study.
Women’s strength can be observed in all aspects of life, and that they hold the same amplitude to do what men do and even more. Regardless of the sex difference, both males and females signify the potential to be where they want to be and reach in life. However, a male-dominated world that views women as inferior and whose place is in the kitchen deters women’s determination to lead and climb up the ladder. Feminism is the act of advocating for women’s rights to ensure equality for all sexes. People have had and continue to hold various misconceptions concerning what Feminism entails. Therefore, through the study of the Gender and Feminist course, my understanding of Feminism has extensively been developed, and now I hold advanced knowledge on Feminism.
The Gender and Feminist course starts by providing its students with the basis to enhance an individual’s understanding of Feminism. Through an introduction to the history of Feminism and the various theories surrounding Feminism formed the main foundation towards my knowledge advancement in the area. Through the various theories surrounding Feminism that I came to interact with throughout the course, the feminism theory on the women of color stood for me. The women of color feminism state an excellent shift being experienced between white and black women. In situations where black women’s issues are discussed separately, it overlooks the conflict and hatred spurring in these communities.
Racism is a significant setback in society and hinders the campaign towards advocating for women’s rights. The primary cause for black women to have created their feminism group is since they lack the full support they require to propel and get what they had aimed for. By understanding the women of color feminism, it is evident that women do not set aside their racial differences and work as a complete union to advocate for all rights. The feminism campaign will never get to acquire the support it needs to attain its goals and objectives. With such divisions in the feminism union’s women and girls from marginalized communities in the world will never come to enjoy their rights or stand up for their defense or have an opportunity to rise and gain power because they will have no grounds to found their strength and voices.
My take away from the Gender and Feminism course is that without unity and for as long as racism still exists. Women’s struggles will remain unheard and unfought for, and divisions and hatred among the white and black people will continue to rise. The best feminism campaign will make a change to the world will exist when equality has been attained in all aspects of life. Therefore, the best campaign would be to enhance the unity among all races then join hands towards women empowerment by ensuring that the purposed goal is beneficial for all and not for a particular group of people. It is always sad to see that white academics voices are more valued than those of black academies. Therefore, if there is no equality in all aspects of life, how can equality be achieved for all women.
