Current Disparity and the Relationship to Economic Policy

Health care disparity typically refers to differences between groups in access and use of healthcare facilities. Healthcare disparities arise and linger through composite mechanisms such as socioeconomic environment and system-level factors like levels of income; they are population-specific differences in the presence of health outcomes and diseases (Brown et al., 2019). For instance, some populations may have higher cancer rates while others might be obese to tobacco consumption.  Health disparities occur in different areas. The two main areas of occurrence of health disparity are socioeconomic status and geographical boundaries.

Healthcare disparity is at some point triggered by economic policies in a given state. Some of the economic policies that impact health disparity in socioeconomic status include employment, income, and education; these policies tend to prioritize some groups of people in the society while others are marginalized.  People with high levels of education and better employment have high chances of accessing health care services compared to the poor who have low levels of education. On the other hand, economic policies such as inequality in resource allocation impact geographical health disparities. People in areas with little resource allocation have limited access to health care services and have a heavy burden of diseases, unlike people in regions with high resource allocation.

The recommendations that should be taken into consideration to reduce the impact of socioeconomic healthcare disparities include ensuring equal chances of employment opportunities to people, provision of education to all social classes, and the imposition of measures to curb income disparities among people (Baptiste-Roberts, Oranuba, Werts, & Edwards, 2017). In the case of geographical healthcare disparity, an organization should ensure fairness in rendering healthcare services and products to people in all localities. There should be strict measures to ensure that resources are effectively and efficiently in all areas. With these recommendations, the negative impacts will be minimized in delivering quality health care to all people.
