The earlier part of June 22, 2021, was characterized by clear weather and higher temperatures. This was followed by the usual sleepy movements to get out of bed and ascend the stairs for the morning coffee. “Hello, Luna,” I said as the beagle arose with vigor, greeting me in the morning. We have always associated with new opportunities and success. Ever since we began living in this house, for the past three months especially, Luna had intertwined herself into my everyday schedule. My mother had observed the situation when, in order to have a dog, it was necessary to have a house, as the preceding apartment was too small and the fees for pets were high.
Luna was my first indoor dog, an energetic, creative, and curious creature. By this time, she was a bundle of energy and craved nothing more than to move around and have fun at seven months old. ROCKY, my previous dog, was a German Shepherd which had always lived outdoors at my grandmother’s house in Rio Grande City. However, Luna was different; she was my little hunting dog, always searching for the smells of cats and possums that came into our backyard at night.
Luna woke me up early most of the time. I saw her circle around the yard before I got ready for work. She was fond of mornings and sniffed the grass in every corner of the yard. I stepped outside and sat her on the porch for a few minutes while I put together a lunch for myself, understanding that she still wasn’t prepared to reenter the house.
However, when the sun rose on that day, something was not quite right. Upon returning inside, she seemed to be feeling low and hid her feelings by looking generally laid-back. My heart sank. I wanted to take my hand and touch her, and she moved back to the door and then fell on the grass, constantly foaming around her mouth and shaking in every muscle.
Panic rose in me; I laid on the girl and cuddled her tightly; her body was shaking violently. I put her into the towel and ran with her to the car, calling my mother, but my voice was trembling. “Mom, something is with Luna. She is having a seizure. I am taking her to the vet. ”
